EMalahleni Local Municipality has always been bombarded with complaints of poor service delivery and corruption. With the recent assault of the Municipal Manager, Mr George Mthimunye by employees, the community has been brainwashed into believing that the Municipal Manager is corrupt. The question is, has the community of Emalahleni been told the truth or have they been influenced by those pushing their personal agenda against Mr Mthimunye?
It is no secret that service delivery in the said municipality is still far from being satisfactory. When Mr Mthimunye joined Emalahleni Local Municipality, the DA drew a petition to try and get the Municipal Manager out of the Municipality due to the past allegations against him from the previous municipalities he served. However, upon joining Emalahleni Local Municipality, Mr George Mthimunye made drastic changes which most were unhappy about and which I personally applaud. The corrupt officials have since been suspended, some dismissed and some even resigned before they could be charged for their mischieveous acts.
Will you now care to ask now why Mr Mthimunye was assaulted and humiliated by the employees of Emalahleni Local Municipality? They say he is "corrupt" because he will not let them "sell" leave days, because he does not tolerate incompetence and loafing of the staff during working hours. If these are corrupt traits by the Municipal Manager, I then wonder what kind of Manager is expected to run the Municipality of Emalahleni, would it be one who says yes to all the demands of the employees and not one who will make decisions that they see suitable for the community of Emalahleni at large? Mr George Mthimunye is a force to be reckoned within Emalahleni and Mpumalanga as a whole, I admire the leadership skills he possesses because he's serving the community with a clear vision and isn't afraid to make decisions even though some may make him an enemy to most. His life is now in danger because he is trying to instill order into this dirty and corrupted municipality and is even being sabotaged by the people working under him. I would like to convey a pledge to the community of Emalahleni and its employees and to the citizens of South Africa as a whole, to give the man a chance to prove himself. If not for the sake of humanity, let it be for that of the future of your children and their children. Let us unite and save Emalahleni from corruption, shame and the embarrassment we are bringing upon ourselves. South Africa has been through so many struggles and I know that it was not for us to be this petty and narrow minded.
