So with all the protestations by NUMSA with regard to the latest strike, including ‘peaceful protests’, ‘no violence’ (as a caller in to 702 firmly stated), and other such wonderful assurances, it turns out that, once again, that was only hot air.
Except in this case it wasn’t simply hot air. These ‘peaceful’ protesters decided to set a few fires, burnt out and smashed a few cars, trashed areas, broke into buildings and indulged in a little looting, as you do when you’re exercising your workers’ rights. Then just because, for them, it was fun, they threw a dog onto the fire and watched that poor animal burn alive and die a horrendous death.
There are no words which can describe the horror and revulsion over this appalling act.
Those pictures, and the story, will go around the world. Tell me again why we are experiencing economic downgrades? Julius has threatened to make the province ungovernable. Too late – the ANC has already managed that.
