Education

08 January 2013, 09:15

Pretoria - I would like to warn all the post-matrics not to fall into the wrongs hands when applying at tertiary, also I'd prefer to remain anonymous for exploitation reasons.I matriculated in 2011 and I'm from Mpumalanga.Immediately after receiving my results in 2012 I went straight to the Medical University of South Africa(MEDUNSA) in Ga-rankuwa and went to book a space to further my studies. I was unfortunate to get a space and study medicine neither did I get a space in any field relating to health science courses.

While depressed about this outcome, within the premises of the school I met this lady "Lenzo" who told me about Science Foundation Paradym (SFP)and how it will help me study for medicine nor help me to be accepted at all universities of my dreams for any health science course next year (2013) and told me to come and register for that programe (SFP), I was so depressed and I knew that if I don't register then I'm going to stay home and do nothing  for the whole year which was not an option for me. I did register and I was told to come to the presentation/opening of this programme. I was so happy and relieved at the same time because finally I thought I was going to study at MEDUNSA and for me it was a tremendous honor to study there.

2 weeks later after registering I went to the presentation at MEDUNSA sport center and there we were told "that this is a varsity programme and it will grant you access to study for any cousre you want in varsity regardless of your poor marks in grade 12 if only you pass SFP" said the principal Mr Aubrey Meetsi who is one of the founders of this so-called varsity programme SFP.

We were about 200 students (rejected at MEDUNSA) who applied for this and we all believed everything they've said and to us it made sense because it all took place within the premises of the school, few days after we received our student cards which had absolutely no electronic entry at the university gates. On February the schooling began and every time we arrived at the gate of the varsity the security guards would open for us and we attended at the offices which was far away from the other classes were the students were attending and few days after attending we were chased out of the premises because the board of MEDUNSA recognized the programe as being private and not part of the school but operated within.

We were denied entry regardless of our student cards and we waited hours at the gate waiting to be let in...that did not happen and we went back to our rooms and tomorrow on our arival we found a notice at the varsity gate that says "No medlide students allowed" they were referring to us. We found another place to study but unfortunately it was a primary school which was abandoned by the government school and there we were ordered by the court to depart from the place because our programme is private and doesn't benefit the public. We spent weeks at home 'not studying' because SFP doesn't have a place to study and 2 weeks after we had to move from Ga-rankuwa to Mabopane because that's were they've found the place to study and it was also an abandoned primary school called "BANA primary school" there we attended and had sporting activities and we were convinced that we will study here and advance to varsity. It was all for nothing untill we found out that one of the founder  was expelled from North West university 'Mr Mavuso' and we all went out to research about the existence of this programme.

We went to HESA (HIGHER EDUCATION OF SOUTH AFRICA) and there was no record of SFP neither there was a record of it under the MEDUNSA campus. SFP was a one year cousre and it cost R14 000 plus R2000 registration. Some had to quit after 1st term because they had proof that it's not registered with HESA, some stayed for the sake of not going back home to stay, it was a great confusion. Now I've paid all the fees but still I don't have any space at varsity and they've applied for me. I don't have anywhere to go, I've passed with 2 distinctions in chemistry and physics with SFP and with all that I don't have anywhere to go, I personally went to the universities namely MEDUNSAuKZNVenda university and North Westuniversity and they don't recorgnize the SFP institution and I can't apply with my matric results because they are extremely low. I've paid 30 000 + including an accommodation to study the SFP programme and it was all for nothing. Currently they are sitting in their offices in Mabopane (Block D) and some of them are inside the campus busy registering new students...don't be one of them.Anyone who wants to be sure whether or not the institution is registered should use the following contacts: Tel :+27 (0) 10 591 4401/2.
