Egypt should have taken better decisions

05 July 2013, 14:58
By: Sivuyile S. Sesi

Over simplifying and intolerance of democratic process puzzled their inexperienced minds. They couldn't think matters through and be able to debate issues with intentions to nurture it.

Because of still unchanged attitude, being unable to let go and adapt to suit for their new democracy situation, its making them in system rebels who overthrown the Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.

They ignored their constitution and undermined African Union which is there to protect and support conducive decision making.

M&G states that South Africa was opposed to any kind of unconstitutional change of government, in line with the AU Constitutive Act.

Monyela said for South Africa "We strongly encourage all Egyptians to resolve the present crisis through inclusive dialogue within the relevant national legal framework that seeks to consolidate the democratic achievements made by the Egyptian people in January 2011."

AU has sent a good message by implementing the usual response to any breaking of constitutional rule by a member state.  In March, AU also suspended the Central African Republic after rebels overthrew the country’s government.

This will send a wrong message to Barrack Obama who just visited Africa recently for not just security but also investment and trade. If there are within system armed military that are formed to strengthen and protect constitution and democracy but instead are used to serve interest of those who are dedicated in undermining and misunderstanding it then we should be concerned of the voices that need
help and support they can't be caught up in the frustrating consequences of unconstitutional decision making.

The hope and dreams of African people for a better country and continent have been dash down. For that our continent will keep depending on visits from leaders like George W. Bush, Barrack Obama and other western leaders because of being unable to take decisions that support democracy.

In South Africa its good we have knowledgeable, effective opposition to ensure healthy democratic political system. In Egypt that is what they lacking.
