Eishkom: Illegal connections

06 March 2014, 11:14  - Yaseen
Eskom's problems are understandable and load shedding maybe the only solution but what really isn't acceptable is the countless illegal electricity connections in the south of Johannesburg surely this has a impact on Eskom's already strained grid ?.... worst is nothing is being done about it.

Eskom and city power officials turn a blind to it as well as the police, in my area Lenasia extension 9 people illegally connect electricity in broad daylight and it's not as we've set back and done nothing, we've contacted city power, the police, the public protector but nobody wants to get rid of this illegal connections which is visible @ every informal settlement in the south of Johannesburg. The wires can be seen running to the shacks to Izinyoka households but the police and city power are too afraid to arrest those Izinyoka or to even attempt to combat the problem .

Almost every day the electricity surges and in the past few months the power has gone countless times as the box supplying us cannot cope with all the illegal connections to it, city power and its affiliates are running advertisements on billboards encouraging the public to report illegal connections but when we do report it they do absolutely nothing about it.

I am sure more power can be freed up and load shedding be prevented when Eskom and city power decide to become pro-active about illegal connections ,that is however highly unlikely and only likely when this becomes a crisis for them and like most other things in SA needs a "special intervention " to fix the problem.
