I am using the last minutes of power in a netbook to write this, hoping that someone picks up on this and knows what to do to help. Fingers crossed News 24 publish this soon.
It is now 8:23am on Sunday. We in Halfway Gardens and Vorna Valley have had no electricity since 11:24am on Saturday.
The City Power call centre is "down". They cannot answer calls and are getting no information as to what is going on. I found this out from another department from the Joburg Connect Centre. I asked about a Plan B for getting info, and for some assurance that something was being done. "Don't know" was the answer to all questions.
The City Power website is down. The Eskom website is of no practical use to anyone.
I took a drive around at 7:30am today and found a City Power employee messing about with a bakkie. I asked him if he knew what was going on and if he knew when roughly the power would return "Eish I don't know" was the predictable answer.
It is crazy that the power has been off for, what, some 21 hours, but the troubling part is no information and no way of getting hold of anyone to hear that the problem is being worked on, let alone when the power will return.
If you are reading this and know who to contact to raise the issue I ask you to please do so. There are thousands of families with no power. I am thinking of the many here with young children in the area who will be unable to look after and feed the babies with no power.
