A week of mourning for people that do not understand the meaning of negotiation. That have armed themselves with dangerous weapons. To what purpose? If you carry weapons and threaten to use them and then charge at the police brandishing these weapons, do you think they must flee? This after the police tried to subdue the mob with water cannons, rubber bullets, stun grenades and tear gas to no avail?
Perhaps then we should hold a day of mourning for all the murderers, rapists and other criminals that have been shot dead by the police. ?What about the 14000 people that die on our roads each year and this equates to 38 deaths daily. In 2010/11 some 44 murders, 181 sexual offences, 278 aggravated robberies, and 678 burglaries were committed per day. I believe it to be much higher but this is the SAPS statistics. Does the president call for a day of mourning for all these victims?
While we are about it let us release another batch of criminals from prison so that they can get on with their jobs of killing, raping and stealing. This country is sinking into anarchy and unless drastic steps are taken and very soon then it will be just another African country ruled by criminals and where lawlessness reigns supreme.
The culture of using threats and violence as a means of "negotiation" has become the norm. If the people don't get what they demand then buildings are burned down, vehicles are stoned, tyres are set alight and roads are blocked, buses and trains are set alight and people are killed because of mob mentality, no matter how unrealistic the demands are such as a wage increase of more than three times their monthly salary!
We can argue and say that they have reached the end of their tether and that it is the only way to get the attention of those in power but it will never justify the killing of fellow human beings or the senseless destruction of property. May God have mercy on us all for I foresee the last light of hope on this dark continent being snuffed out and then the law of the jungle will be the only law in town. Evolution of humankind? No, back to the dark ages and a continent of people that have managed in less than two hundred years, to destroy all that has given them a more comfortable life. Is this how the people of Africa "progress"? Regression = Progression.
