We’ve tried. Oh boy we’ve tried. But we can no longer sit back and watch our beloved News24 forums descend into a pit of madness. No sir, fake profiles must go!
This article is a simple clarion call to human decency, and also to the powers that be to nip the scourge in the bud.
Where to start? Seems some people have nothing better to do with their free time than to spend it on News24. Now this in itself is not necessarily a bad thing when one needs to be up to date with current affairs and provide thought-provoking comments on articles, but to do so under some new fake profile merely for the purposes of sparking online tensions, is simply despicable.
MemeMan posted a piece the other day about a new Facebook group formed between a handful of Christians and atheists last week. As expected, the initiative didn’t last too long and inevitably self-imploded as the two camps continue to be at loggerheads, simply not being able to see eye-to-eye.
One of his points though, was a gripe that everyone seems to have: Fake profiles that are simply trolling our beloved forums to rile the masses.
MemeMan urged News24 to find a technical solution to this growing problem.
The problem is so serious that famed essayists such as ourselves (and Zion) are being side-lined by hocus pocus snake-oil salesmen, who seem more intent on a cheap thrill than adding anything of value to the national debate so vital to the greater good.
How will the budding atheist make the leap of faith into the suspension of belief required for genuine evolution if he is side-tracked by Andy the gay nihilist?
How will Jamie convert to Jesus if Nancy the Saviour of the World carries on peddling her interpretation of God and the dreaded End Times?
How will Judy 'DamnTheMan' (whose undoubtedly on the brink of conversion himself), cross that Red Sea to the land of Milk and Honey if he's constantly being thrown off his rhythm by the likes of Crrackpot, Bruning or MerryMartin?
What this forum needs is a moderator who is objective and unbiased.
We put it to the News24 editors that the Bergie & Charles Investigative Journalist Team be considered for this demanding yet serious role.
Yes, we know it’s a sacrifice, an unappreciated sacrifice that we’re prepared to make for our fellow man; a tireless and thankless job that will certainly cause us no small amount of angst.
But we feel obliged - if not called - to step up to the plate and perform this labour of love, providing the MyNews24 platform with the truth, transparency and credibility that we all know it so desperately needs.
