FATHER GRANDFATHER HUSBAND: PART 2
There is a well hackneyed saying: “ To toss a curved ball” In many cases this curved ball will harmlessly deflect of the bat or strike the wickets and the batsman will be out. Life, too, has its curved ball tossed by the hand of man or fate and usually the result is life or death.
A few weeks ago I submitted an article with a similar heading and in that case the ball created life and the person shook off his coma but the downside is he had to forfeit his sight in one of his eyes while the other remained semi-blind. His one hand and arm was paralysed while the other could not be controlled. He is hungry much of the time and food is unloaded beside his bed. Nobody feeds him and when visiting hour arrives, members of his family have to feed him. Complaints were made to the senior staff of the hospital but all allegations of incompetence were denied. Nobody noticed a hardly edible sandwich on a saucer, untouched and hard.
Nobody noticed that his stumps had to be cleansed regularly and another piece has to be removed due to infection. Nobody noticed he is still a human being. His wife, an elderly lady, visited him daily and assisted with the lavations, feeding and ablutions. Sadly , at her age she could not keep pace with the Lackadaisical tempo of the hospital and her health failed too. She now resides in the ICU suffering from blood clots on her lungs and breathing difficulties.
This is not a third world hospital somewhere in the bush but supposedly one belonging to the best organisations in this country. The public is duped to believe the service is of the best overall yet visitors come to feed their loved ones and that in itself tells of the mentality that exists in these hospitals.I hope I never have to write the article: MOTHER - GRANDMOTHER - WIFE.
