Football, what's happened to you?

26 June 2014, 11:00
I've been following the football, not as much as my husband, but I've been following it, and I want to know: What's happened to the beautiful game?
I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way, but football isn't what it used to be. Football used to be so exciting and The World Cup used to be a festival of fun and excitement, something to look forward to every four years. There used to be back-flips on field, the players used to take their shirts off after scoring a goal, they'd throw themselves on the grass in excitement, they'd dance all around the field. The players used to wear short shorts allowing them the freedom to perform their acrobatic tricks on the field.Remember Clive Barker, he'd run on the field with his "aeroplane" dance.
Now they keep their shirts on (an injustice to women the world over), the shorts are so long they look like pants on the short guys like Messi (bless his soul, he's adorable). The players aren't as exciting and disciplined as the players of yesteryear. I am yet to see an acrobatic trick on the field for this years World Cup. It's just boring now. Why?
Maybe the game is still the same and I've just grown up and gotten over the excitement of a tournament the occurs only every four years. Whatever it is, the game isn't as beautiful as it used to be, to me at least.
And for goodness sake, can someone please explain to me why the players don't take their shirts off anymore. Why?
