On Friday the 17th of August 2012 you were in such a hurry to get home that you skipped a traffic light. Usually there is not much traffic coming of the side road. But on that fateful night my son, Jean-Paul Venter was standing at that traffic light to cross the road in his “Hitler” when the traffic light turned green for him he crossed the road. You in your truck hit his car on the passenger side. A few minutes later, my first born was no more. He died all alone without his family around him. I think that is why I hated you the most.
Jean-Paul was a family man. His family meant the world to him. And here in his last moments on earth he was all alone.
But now 18 months later I realised – to heal myself I need to forgive you. It is not your fault that SAPS and the EMPD messed up by not getting the names of the eye witnesses. It is not your fault that our justice system failed us. I need to think that you have the most human emotion of guilt. It was fate that put you at that specific intersection at that specific time.
Today I want to say to you, nameless driver of “the Truck” – I Madelene Venter forgive you, I wish upon you forgiveness and healing.
