Hey it’s Friday so let’s have a bit of fun!
Don’t worry trendsetters, coconuts, self-proclaimed Greek Gods and protectors of human rights, this won’t be too heavy.
I’m really interested in modern media’s contribution to quite an interesting social phenomenon – uncontrollable 21st Century delusion narcissism. Call me crazy but do I really need to see your Blackberry status update telling me you’ve ‘Gone to gym, watch this space, body under construction’?
I mean really? Do you think your mates need to know that ‘You’re living life to the fullest’! Do your work colleagues need to subjected to ‘I have the bestest boyfriend in the whole wide world’?
I mean apart from the ridiculous status updates, do we really need to hear your opinion on matters. Any matters? Do you think the public cares if you date outside your race or whether you think Christians are silly; or have you deluded yourself to the point, convinced of your obvious literary genius, you start your next article with the words ‘I must be a better writer than I thought…..’
Never mind the content, what about the profile names? I mean there’s Greek god, arch angel, gun toting, Truth telling, sub geniuses out there. There’s even trolls, dolls and automobiles…it’s a veritable zoo out there. What a study in social anthropology!
Don’t get me wrong the range of user generated ‘news’ is fabulous to read. There’s smart stuff, silly stuff, nasty stuff and even ‘be happy’ fluffy stuff. I haven’t laugh this hard since watching Jim Carrey playing Charlie / Hank, in the classic ‘Me, Myself and Irene’, while fighting a really bad case of ‘cotton mouth’ the scene goes:
Charlie takes his medication at the Massena Police Station]
Irene P. Waters: What are those for?
Charlie Baileygates: Oh! It's just this stupid thing. I have to take a pill every six hours or I feel... funny. No big deal.
Irene P. Waters: What's it called?
Charlie Baileygates: Advanced delusionary schizophrenia with involuntary narcissistic rage.

Anyway, you know what they say folks. “For every finger that you point at someone, there’s four pointing straight back at ya’”. So before you absolutely pillory me for all for all of my utterly self-indulgent commentary this week, let me remind you that I am not narcissistic at all.
I’m just the best commentator, I have the best profile name and now I’m going to ‘Have a sandwich for lunch’
Have a good weekend trendsetters, coconuts, complete nuts, whatever…..
Ciao
