I have a question for all the readers. I have just searched the internet looking for answers to a specific question with regards to Labour law.
Let me give you this example. Lets say I am working shifts, I have to be at work for the pre-shift meeting 15 minutes before that start of work. That is fair and understandable, as people need to be marked as present or absent, people need to be deployed and any information that needs to be delivered to the employees can be do so at this time.
Yet here in lies a problem . Lets say I am at work 30 minutes before start of shift. I am clothed in civilian clothes out of the way of production, in a smoking area, greeting and conversing with fellow workers before the start of my shift. Is it possible for me to be disciplined for not wearing company livery as my working hours have not yet started? Lets say it is a hot dayworking hours are 14h00 - 22h00 , a person arrives at 13h30 in a pair of shorts and a shirt, containing no-logos or profanities, talks to a few people goes to the locker room changes into the company clothes and then proceeds to work.
As i see it if I am there in and on my own time , not hindering others in the work or duties, in no area close to prodcution of any form how is it possible to be chastised publicly? I can understand if someone did this and was scantly clad or attempted to work with out safety clothes ect but this is just too much of a god complex. What if a muslim comes to work on a Friday after their prayers in his religous garb before his working hours only to be crapped on for it , even though his has not been afforded the time to change and his working hours have not started.
I think and feel that someone has developed a god complex about themselves, I could be wrong and there could could a LAW which may make this legal at which point I will yeild to my lack of knowledge , never before at any place I have worked before has this happened. Safety shoes can be cumbersome to drive with , especially the sizes 13 and upwards in some vehicles so before shift wearing comfortable shoes cant be a problem , on shift it is up to the employee to make sure they are used and any problems with regards to him/her performing their duties while using them should be notified to managment at once.
Please help folks I just need to know is there a law that prohibits people pre and post shift wearing civilian clothes on company premises, clothes that do not contain violence and profanity.
