Foton Bakkie was purchased in December 2012 brand new from Foton/Cherry Diep River.
About 3 months ago the vehicle started having problems with the electrical window and lock on the driver side. The vehicle only had 3000km on the clock. This also caused the battery to go flat. I took the vehicle to Paarden Eiland Multi Franchise. They told me that a little plug came loose. I asked the service person if they could do the service on the vehicle (5000km) and he said they don’t do it at 5000km anymore but at 10 000km
The bakkie was fine for about 2 months and the same problem started. The window and lock did not work on the driver side, and then the battery will go flat. But this time it was worse. The vehicle completely went dead and would not start at all. All electrics went dead. So I e-mail Diep River and they gave me a call centre number for roadside assist. I phoned them and they gave me a Ref no
The vehicle was collected by a towing company on a flatbed truck. I was told it was going to Kia Stikland. No one phones me and let me know anything. So I phoned Kia Stikland, they don’t know anything about my bakkie. Told me to try Somerset West. I found the bakkie there. I spoke to a person in their workshop. He did not know what was wrong with the bakkie and was not told. I explained to him the story. After tests I was told the bakkie needs to go to Paarden Eiland as they work with guarantee repairs. Firstly I was told to pay for a new battery. I refused as this was a new bakkie, and the problem was not the battery. The battery was damaged as a result of the electrical. Then I was told the alternator is the problem.
I waited a few days, and heard nothing from no one. I phoned Paarden eiland and was very rudely told the bakkie is not there, why am I phoning them? I must phone Somerset West. So I phoned them again. And he said he would make sure the bakkie gets send to Paarden eiland immediately. So I waited a week.
After not receiving any phone calls I once again phoned Paarden Eiland and spoke to a person and had to explain once again what the problem was with the bakkie. Once again I waited.
And to make a long story short, it is now the 25th of October and I have not heard anything. Still stuck without my car, and this since September 2nd.
I have reported this to various people, consumer complaints commission, newspapers etc etc etc. As far as I go, I run into brick walls. I am totally frustrated at this stage. I cannot believe that the service and quality of service has stooped down to this level. I thought the new consumer’s law has changed and is in favour of the consumer? The suppliers have just gone and made it more impossible to get anywhere. And so I am paying for something I have no use of.
To date I have not been offered a courtesy vehicle, apology, absolutely nothing.
This is really ridiculous. Do yourself a favour and don’t ever deal with Imperial.
