It's been said of self-esteem that you can't touch it, but it affects the way you feel and you can't see it, but it's there in the mirror when you look at yourself. Self-esteem is therefore a term used to reflect a person's overall evaluation or appraisal of her or his own worth.
Should transsexuals, transvestites and hermaphrodites(intersex) all be dressed in self esteem. What about queer folks who often gets confused by some of us as being transsexuals, transvestites and hermaphrodites and therefore gets abusive labels tossed at them in such extremely derogatory terms like the fudge-packers,donut-punchers,butt-pirates,anal intruders or whatever?
You see transsexuals covers quite a broad category as it usually refers to people who consider themselves to be a man in a woman's body or vice-versa.Transexual is also sometimes used a blanket term that encompasses both transvestites and transgender individuals, but generally is a synonym word used for being transgender.
Transvestites,on the other hand, are men who enjoy wearing women's clothing, or women that like dressing up as men.More like drag queens and kings if you will, are transvestites. Transvestites never feel they in the wrong body,as transgender individuals often do. Transvestites are perfectly comfortable being a man, that enjoys wearing women's clothing and vice versa. As cross-dressers these men are certainly not gay,but just enjoy the luxury that goes with wearing a skirt for example.
There is a huge difference between wanting to wear clothes of the opposite sex,and actually wanting to be the opposite sex themselves. It's being born in the wrong body and being trapped in it.Sex reassignment surgery can change all that like it did for the confused Buffalo Bill character in Silence of the Lambs.Sadly he's character was a notorious serial killer that got killed for what he did.
Transsexuals feel they can live as a man or woman whenever they can,but remain as a man or woman for business purposes. Being to obsess with who they are can distance these people from other people in civil society.
Quirky, beautiful, and a highly-spirited woman, but you know what that she really has a deep voice like a man's. It's the stark, downright, grimly blunt and unembellished realism that makes it either a "spectator sport" or a term of endearment.
For centuries now,the differences between men and women were socially defined and distorted through a lens of sexism. In certain circles of our modern society, politically correctness can obliterate important discussions in our awareness of the similarities and differences that define those of us who are men and those who are women and to remain such.
Is it gender bender or just versatility? Gender bending is sometimes a form of social activism undertaken in response to assumptions or over-generalisations about genders. Some gender benders identify with the gender assigned them at birth, but challenge the norms of that gender through androgynous behaviour and atypical gender roles.
Gender benders may self-identify as transgender or gender queer, feeling that the gender assigned to them at their birth is an inaccurate or incomplete description of themselves; some are transsexual and desire to change their physical sex through hormone therapy or sex reassignment surgery, while others were born intersexual.
Then there is the ancient Greek Mythology surrounding androgyny. Androgyny is a term that comes from the Greek words "stem" meaning anér or andr which is "man", and also "gyné" meaning "woman" does refer to the combination of masculine and feminine characteristics.
In ancient Greece, the word applied to a person who did not fit cleanly into the typical masculine and feminine gender role of their respective societies. Androgynous men and women were generally more flexible and more mentally healthy than either masculine or feminine individuals.
Also androgynous gender roles were more desirable in academic and work settings because of their demands for action and assertiveness. A recent study found that masculine and androgynous individuals had higher expectations for being able to control the outcomes of their academic efforts than a feminine or undifferentiated individuals did.
So gender benders-dressed up in self esteem or just more versatile than the rest of us?I'll let you decide.
