The recent flare up in the Middle-East is again bringing out the best in the religious folk, just have a look at the comment sections of the related news articles. It is shocking, yet not surprising, how these “peace loving” religions erupt in an instant hate feast when even half an opportunity is presented. In fact, reading some of these comments makes it quite clear that many don’t even have the slightest idea as to the intricacies of the conflict, yet see this as a justified forum for spewing their bottled up hatred towards their fellow man. Pathetic, yet a great spectacle for the religious at work.
With South Africa being a predominantly Christian country, it is not surprising that a great deal of sympathy lies with the Israelis. At least they share some religious background and both have the Muslims as arch enemy number one. So it is not uncommon to see comments that link Israel’s upper hand in this conflict with their allegiance to the one and only true god and regular warning to Hamas not to screw with the nation of god etc. etc. Laughable, I know, but go and have a look at these comments.
My question to these folk is simple, where was this almighty god when the Jews were exterminated like ants with a can of Doom? Yes, the 6 odd million that this same god turned his back on when Hitler (self-confessed Christian) systematically wiped out millions of Jews. Why do you think this god suddenly will protect and support his nation now? Also, where was this god when the three Israeli children were murdered, the very incident that lead to the recent flare up in this conflict?
The answer is simple. God is only there when those who he protects, saves and supports, have the means to do so themselves. God supports those with superior armies, those who have the ability to defend themselves and those who have the money and means to feed and cure themselves. Those who can’t fend for themselves, are forgotten by god.
Not surprisingly, god’s followers know and accept his limitations. Have a look, do you see these sort of macho claims when the odds are stacked against god’s children? Off course not, they know that first and foremost you have to fend for yourself, only then will god get “involved”.
One has to admit, god is at least predictable and consistent.
