Godmen and miraculous births (Jesus and others)

30 June 2014, 07:26
1. Ancient books are filled with stories of divine (godman) men. The divinity came from a god father and the humanity from a earthly woman.
2. Even Origen acknowledge the existence of such tales and I quote "Origin. Against Celsus. Book 1, Chapter 37.":
"For some have thought fit, not in regard to ancient and heroic narratives, but in regard to events of very recent occurrence, to relate as a possible thing that Plato was the son of Amphictione, Ariston being prevented from having marital intercourse with his wife until she had given birth to him with whom she was pregnant by Apollo. And yet these are veritable fables, which have led to the invention of such stories concerning a man whom they regarded as possessing greater wisdom and power than the multitude, and has received the beginning of his corporeal substance from better and diviner elements than others, because they thought that this was appropriate to persons who were to great to be human beings. And since Celsus has introduced the Jew disputing with Jesus, and tearing in pieces, as he imagines, the fiction of His birth from a virgin, comparing the Greek fables about Danae, and Melanippe, and Auge, and Antipope, our answer is, that such language becomes a buffoon, land not one writing in serious tone."
3. It is clear from Origen that godmen birth stories were ordinary knowledge in a superstitious world.
4. Even in the Bible in Acts 28:6 the inhabitants of Malta thought Paul was a god after surviving a snake bite.
In a superstitious world there was lots of men who sell superstitious nonsense to the gullible audiences. The Jesus virgin birth story is just another fabrication as many other myths about virgin births.
