It appears God is colluding with certain individuals to accrue a considerable helping of earthly goods. Joyce Meyer is one of these divinely appointed bankers whose working relationship with Jesus has yielded handsome profits and the fawning of many self described Christians. Bible preaching hasn’t always been such a lucrative career choice, not since the birth of the Word/Faith prosperity gospel and ‘daddy’ Kenneth Hagins’ revelatory encounters has Christianity become a commercially expedient affair. Having found their loophole, the movement has positioned itself as the dumping ground for opportunist, loud mouthed fraudsters who would otherwise be spending their days selling tricks and shady wares.
The prosperity gospel borrows heavily from the teachings of the bible, but only by the full employ of hucksterism and scrupulous mining of the text. It’s a racket that has gathered a seedy cast of eager characters, opulently furnished TV studios and a ever growing audience of illiterate simpletons. The Meyer stage act attracts a following of haggard, tranquillized housewives who enjoy their doctrine sprinkled with the Meyer touch; Joyce rouses her crowd with self-exalting anecdotes of wisdom and triumph over adversity. Joyce is not only a spiritual leader to this sisterhood, but offers highly recommended therapy and counseling to her blinkered audience. But Joyce does it all for the kingdom, corporate private jets, multimillion dollar mansions, a book and broadcasting empire is what happens when you labor tirelessly for the Lord.
Meyer and her ilk operate what is essentially a spiritual pyramid scheme. The principles are the same, those that ‘sow’ into her ministry, are promised to reap a profitable return. Meyer would have us believe she is a simple, humble servant of the most high and the prima facie proof of this divine stewardship is her lavish wealth and the continual ‘blessing’ of the Lord, as she so often reminds her critics -.
‘there’s no need for us to apologize for being blessed’
New standards of stupidity are being fought for here as no-one can spot something curiously amiss by the fact that Joyce is doing all the receiving and her flock all the giving.
On closer examination of scripture, not only does opulent wealth receive unfavorable press, especially from Jesus himself, (Mathew 6:19:’Ye cannot serve God and mammon’) but tawdry hucksters such as Meyer are outright castigated to the fiery quarters of hell. Jesus had severely unkind words for the Pharisees and what more exquisitely perfected prototype than Joyce to snugly fit into the posture of a pharisee. The question thus arises, how in the hell are these clerical pickpockets managing to evade detection in the throes of such a shameless circus of cupidity. You should know the answer by now, nothing is as reliable and ubiquitous as greed and stupidity and when introduced to the scruples of Miss Meyer, there’s cash to be made.
Meyers holy activities has piqued the interest of the IRS and the Jefferson County assessor.
Joyce Meyer Ministries has been battling Jefferson County Assessor Randy Holman for several years to keep its $30 million headquarters and its contents off the tax rolls.
Holman has maintained that the ministry’s property does not qualify to be tax exempt.
Under the law, a religious organization can be tax exempt only if its property is used for the public good and only if public church services are held regularly at the site, Holman said. Meyer’s headquarters has no public services; its chapel is used only by the 600 employees who produce and sell tapes and books, broadcast Meyer’s television program and collect money for the ministries
Here’s a few bible verses you won’t hear at the next crowd pleasing, Joyce Meyer tour:
1st Epistle John 2:15 ‘Love not the world, or the things of this world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.’
1st Timothy 6:5, ‘……, ‘who suppose that godliness is a means of gain’….
6:9, ‘For those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare….6:10, ‘For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil….’
John 18:36: ‘My kingdom is not of this world’
1 Peter 5:2 ‘shepherd the flock of God which is among you…….., not for dishonest gain but eagerly;’
2 Corinthians 2:17 ‘For we are not as so many, peddling the word of God;’
Titus 1:7 ‘For a bishop must be blameless,……, not greedy for money….’
John 15:20 ‘if they persecute me, they will also persecute you’
Philippians 2:3 ‘Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit’
2 Timothy 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution
One would think that mentally processing such verses would be sufficient to induce some pause, or at least have patrons shifting uncomfortably in their seats. But this would be paying too much respect to Meyer and her ilk. Meyer is no doubt a conscious fraud and her patrons by self willed stupidity, ravenously lap up the pompous mantras and odes to the delights of materialism all wrapped in religious dress.
Self described Christians of this generation certainly don’t pay any attention to what their scriptures actually teach, their bible merely serves as an accessory to the christian community and lifestyle.
