GONE FISHING
Fishing has never been my fort’ However, to please the powers who be I partook in the messy sport of fishing and disliked every second of it: I preferred to remain at home and read the writings from a mad jellyfish than anything else. Ok, in many cases of (beer) I would rather drink myself into oblivion at home while all is quiet than get up to the same on the beach.
Besides, you can score and suffer an unwanted suntan, save your sinkers, and keep the sand out of your breeches. If you want fish then go visit something fishy.
What is so frustrating about fishing is to see your mates catch the world onto a hook yet you have not even had a bite and then stand around droe bek and end up serving braai vleis and brandy.
One of the laws of going fishing some distance from home is to forget something or other at home. In like I did. I left the fishing reels at home which ment that there will be absolutely no fishing for at least the rest of next week. Home was more than 60km away. My parents were more sour than a combination of lemon juice and my dearest Just Lord GRRRR. On another occasion the bread knife and fish bait was forgotten at my Domicilium. Funny how everybody appreciates and applauses you while holding a steak knife in their hands. One way to get rich quick is to collect and resell the tons of booze bottles normally riding the tides.
Sandwich Harbour: 57km south of walvisw Bay: there is no harbour but has a bay and a lagoon. Fishing is fairly good if you can either entrap them or you can cast a hook in the sea to a distance of about 400metres. I once discovered a ancient human scull on the beach and an unknown fish too. The fish turned out to be a guernet. Problems abound when 4x4 vehicles because 4x4 does not mean it can fly but that it has 4 running wheels and when it is stuck in the sand it must be carried to better pastures. That is one reason why I have an aversion for landies.
In the past one had to obtain a entry permit from the magistrate but I cannot know what the situation is today. Sandwich harbour is a Nature conservation area.
The following fish are generally caught in that region is: Steen bras, Kabeljou, Dassie, various sharks, and rays(not sun rays) As for myself Nothing, nothing, nothing. The distant dunes and lagoon are worthwhile sites that cannot be missed. Because it is mostly covered in mist. During the early years of the Twentieth Century a ship had run aground in that area. No it was not the Simferopol. There is a tendency in that area for fishing boats to become grounded but that is usually due to poor navigation and incompetent skippers. When fishing there bait is is rather cheap. One needs to just bend down and dig into the sand to find white mussels
