Government By Deception

19 September 2012, 10:03

I read a book by Jan Lamprecht, Government by Deception (2002) which paints a rather grim image of how the ANC really operates.  Although he makes a compelling argument, I keep my pinch of salt handy. He does, however predict the factionalism that is clear in current affairs.

What is accurate about his argument is that the versions of the struggle story taught in schools leave out many details which are necessary to compile a rational and reasonable understanding of the circumstances under which the ANC came to power and an opinion of their doings. Off course the result of the informed truth would be a second thought at the ballot booth for many.

His prejudice stems, however, from an obvious anger. By leaving emotions behind and discarding the media as self-serving, but retaining interest in current affairs, people will find more academic resources and  a variety of such resources to become properly informed. The only prerequisites are effort and reason. Lamprecht does however mention his lack of political affiliation in his foreword and is forthright about his anguish towards the ANC.

The cover of his book has a photo with one half of Madiba's face smiling and the other half a scull, such to imply that Mandela is evil, hiding behind a facade. Ironically the copy that I picked up in the university library at Stellenbosch has the same cover only depicting Mugabe instead.

The South African people are being taught to believe that the ANC -or any of its members for that matter- are heroes for freeing the masses.  The truth is, however that they are an organisation that sought to exploit a political market to gain power.

Athough they were very effective at getting into power, they never had a plan for governing the country.  It was a matter of power, getting it and keeping it. BEE and AA are guises. The policies are poorly drafted and poorly implemented because they are not well conceived, not to mention the rest of the South African government's nonsensical operations. Inefficiency creates opportunities for corruption and failure.

The very principles of a democratic and decentralised government, as drafted in the constitution, has never been implemented (local and provincial governments are to function on a tiered basis with national government, not hierarchical). This eliminates any coherence of checks and balances and focuses the bulk of political power on a very select few. It also diminishes the value of the constitution to an ideal rather than a binding practical agreement between the government and the people.

The recent increase in meddling with the judiciary and media censorship by government points fingers at one reason for such behaviour...The reason for this is Marxism (not the ideology, the political practise over the last century).

Please note that the ANC- alligned SACP was the very first Communist party to form outside of Russia (1921).   During the Cold War the only formal backing South Africa's revolutionary organisations had were from Havana, Moscow and Beijing. The USSR subsidised training for the ANC's military wing, Umkhonto We Sizwe, in Angola. These are facts that will never appear in school textbooks.

Being Marxist and claiming to be democratic causes a massive range of social difficulties.  There is no clarity and no coherence. People don't know what is happening and the confusion turns into misunderstanding which rather easily turns into rage.

With an unstable society the elite are in a position to manipulate policy to suit their own agendas using socioeconomic circumstances as a diversion. After using the working class (or the masses) to overthrow the holders of power or to interchange power in its ranks, the ones that claimed to be leading the charge are in a position to take credit and assume control, and history has proved that they don't give it up.

The means by which this power is achieved is rarely dignified.  No political organisation can claim compassion because organisations do not have emotions.  Organisations have goals and strategies on achieving those goals. Often the strategies involve playing on the emotions of peoples but there is no true relationship.

My argument is that if the truth is to make an appearance in South African history and politics, we will be hearing the evidence in the Rivonia Trial alongside the pictures of the anti-apartheid riots. We will be informed on intimidation tactics such as necklacing as much as we are about the evils of the Separate Amenities act. We would be told the communist involvement in our society and we would be allowed to be more critical. We would hear both sides of the story in unbiased language.

Lamprecht's book makes very accurate predictions of the status quo.  He understands that the happenings in South Africa are nothing new.  He knows that the ANC is totally aware of its actions although the public is kept in the dark. The true agenda is that of retaining and recycling power within the ranks of the ANC.

Polarisation is a political tool, please don't be a tool yourself!
