First of all, I would like to congratulate you, the African National Congress on your 100 years of existence.
You painted Bloemfontein the color of our flag and celebrated nicely to the tune of a R100 million a couple of weeks ago. Yes, 100 years existence is something to celebrate, but have you asked yourselves what you will celebrate if our rhinos are all gone, and that under your watch? So, instead of throwing a party or building toll roads that nobody asked for, why don’t you come to the party and take military action against these uneducated drivel from the Far East.
Yes, you heard me, send more army troops to protect the Rhinos and shoot the poachers. Shoot to kill!
As taxpaying citizens, we not only pay you to protect us as human beings, but we also pay good taxes for you to protect our national heritage i.e. Rhinos. We pay salaries to the armed forces every month and as far as I know, we are not at war against anyone at the moment so I would like to suggest that instead of letting them do pushups and polish their shiny footwear in training camps around the country all day long, why do you not round up some troops and make them do the work that they are paid to do, to fight for our country.
Declare war on Rhino Poaching ANC. I know that the troops are stationed around the country and that there are military tactics etcetera but, I am not aware of any military threat, neither from any of our neighboring countries nor from a global point of view. The biggest threat facing this country at the moment is not Julius Malema and his entourage having a field day with the senior ANC officials making you lot look like a bunch of spineless leaders, no, it’s the threat of losing a precious animal that generates millions of revenue each year from tourists visiting our land from across the globe to come see this majestically beautiful animal.
The Quagga…Gone.
Caspian Tigers…Gone.
The Dodo…Gone.
I can list many more, and I am afraid that should you, the ANC, not take action and do the job we pay you to do, which is to protect our heritage, the Rhino will fall firmly into the same category above.
I am merely a citizen, I have children to raise and a job to attend to during the day, I do not have the funds to start something like the Sea Sheppard and I do not have the manpower to do so. Basically the tools aren’t there for me to start a war against Rhino Poaching. You, the ANC, on the other hand have all the necessary tools and funds at your disposal to do something about this inhumane act of cruelty. So, instead of paying salaries to troops to just sit around and wait for the occasional unrest in some small township no-one has heard of, round them up and send them to a war worthy of attention.
Do you want to be remembered as the political party who fought tooth and nail to unite a country that had so many issues to deal with, or do you want to be remembered as the ANC who sat back and looked on while our Rhinos were diminished to the point of extinction? Deserve your next 100 million rands celebrations. Save our Rhinos!
I know not one government official with enough power to do something about it will actually read this, but maybe we should all stand together and work towards a solution. I suggest military action. There could be better suggestions, like poisoning the horns etc, but nothing that is being done at the moment is working. Drastic measures to send our armed forces maybe, but so so worth it.
