I would like to vent my frustration with service delivery in Grahamstown, if you can call it service delivery.
How can a municipality let a town go without water for 2 weeks and literally not do a thing about it? It blows my mind , I mean lets get real here.
We moved to Gtown in 1985 and I always boasted that out of all the small surrounding towns in that area, Gtown was by far the most beautiful, we have the Arts Festival, Amazing top class private schools, Rhodes University. In my opinion, a small economic hub.
Look at it now, its wasting away like all the other ANC run towns in the Eastern Cape. Gtown was featured on Carte Blanche recently about the 2 week drought that brought the town to a stand still, Rhodes Uni on the verge of closure and the most interesting point about that, the Rhodes professor stated that the Municipality is deadly silent, they cant reach them or get into contact with them. Do they have no respect for the citizens of Gtown, do they have no respect for themselves?
While Carte Blance was airing the Gtown story, people in Gtown was without water again, oh the irony. When there is water, its brown and undrinkable anyway. Lets not even talk about the power outages that happens on a weekly basis. If you smell the rain, you know the power will be off in literally minutes, that's how predictable it is.
How can you have one incompetent engineer looking after the whole region, how can you? This is where the problem comes. What a wonderful world we would live in if these people actually owned up and said, 'we need help'! But no, dodging and weaving like George Foreman in a boxing ring, denial is the name of the game. All at the expense of the people paying their outrages salaries every month.
In conclusion, we have to vote these arrogant, lazy, incompetent gravy slobbering fools out or else we will be standing at the spring outside Grahamstown with buckets getting our daily water for the rest of our lives.
