I once heard a man say that a people with no culture, values, principles or belief are a people with not much of a future if any at all; I believe this is observed by reflecting some of what this country’s history has left over for us over time. We have inherited an oppressive system and one which we cannot shy away from. We got rid of the former representatives but we have left its structures in place, this defeats the purpose of whatever freedom people felt they inherited.
What strikes one the most is the lack of economic will from corporates to rid the profitable structures and the political will to enforce this change, it seems a new deal was struck with ribbons cut and the rest of society remaining uninvited guests to the global carnival for big chiefs and modern slave whipping stakeholders to grab a piece of the biggest and most awe inspiring piece of a new world order phenomenon better known as the capitalist stake. How else do you explain the increasing inequalities and still try justifying the relevancy of such disparity when nature alone backed by technological gains has the potential to take care of us all?
The result is such that we find ourselves blaming the poor and not those who structured the structures of poverty and to date ensuring its sustained growth. We cannot solve a problem that we are lead to believe does not exist, so why not question what you are told or taught to believe. Do not blame the poor man or woman for being hungry when they have no land to farm. Do not begin to tell people they don’t want to change when they know no better and all you offer is a second class education for a second class income in a mixed class economy. Do not only blame government alone when private sector plays spectator of its own doings yet they make more profits than ever before. Of course there is crime unfolding! Is it not what most desperate people would do in order to survive, it has become a matter of life and death when your children within their home land cannot eat of the fruits of their soil. You call out for innovators but how do they do it themselves with no access to resources due to greed and corruption? You speak of housing but you offer matchboxes that seem like developed shacks and only replace the old demarcations to form the new concentration camps. The health services are more like death services. The list of flaws that we inherited is endless and it should never be put to rest until its issues are ironed out and further resolved in full.
Not only should more primary secondary and tertiary institutions be built but graduates need to be absorbed accordingly; try the very least to educate our future with something worth knowing like the truth of Africa’s glorious history and not just the common tragedies, this may inspire dignity and belief going forward. Inspire a generation by offering ample resources for opportunities to help them harness their natural resources. Treat the root cause not the off shoots by dismantling the poverty structures and reverse the ills of history by restructuring around developing a holistic people. Stop saying it will happen let us see it unfold when infrastructure is developed all around us for us all to enjoy. Have an integrated foresight in your plan let it not focus on corporate capital but human emancipation as a primary goal. Fill us with pride so we can own the process, surely we will know when it is intended for our benefit by merely experiencing its changes first-hand. It is not impossible only if we move away from making it improbable.
Only then will we have something more than suffering to inherit, only then will we call it a day of our heritage and something for all to celebrate.
