Hey, let the Venda chief(s) be - Let Our Culture Be

17 June 2014, 07:40

They didn't sell that girl - stop using words such as "trafficking" or "BokoHaram" to describe and act which was in the name of culture. Of-cause the very idea of "Giving off a woman as a present" is demeaning to women and should be frowned down on. But again, those girls were consenting adults, so lets not get carried away with the rage.

We look down on cultural practices so much that even when people made their own choices we blast them as being oppressed and we call them backwards. A Venda girls lies down when she greets, and that's beautiful, but u still have people crying over this and saying those women are oppressed... yet, I have never seen a gun being pointed at anyone of those girls - they love their culture and will participate to it. So why is there so much hate when it comes to such?? Hmm??

Well, I know: its because its AFRICAN, and not western. Anything that we do that is true to our Native Culture is considered Backwards or oppressive and all these names. The white man has beat us down so much and invoked the self hating Bantu inside us to scream at our cultural practices and find so many reasons why we should act western. And I mean everything, be it this thing of marrying off that girl, or King Mswati marrying a girl from a hundreds bare chested maidens, to the reed dance, we will blast it and make sure to point out how backwards our cultures are, even thoe the girls, and WOMEN do it willingly - they love their culture, they take pride in it... but you will have some white person calling it backwards, and some self hating coconut Negro will follow suit.

I bet U a million bucks, if prince whatshisname from Britain said he wanted to marry a girl and the royal house called girl to parade half naked for a chance, there would be millions of white girls from all over the world participating and no one will bat an eye, they will call it beautiful and history in the making... not backwards or anything. They frown upon lobola too... which I think is a beautiful act of family bonding for the future relatives, but hey, white people only see it as "Bridal price", and an African thing, so its Backwards, even some people say that.

We are Africans and we should be proud of our culture, we should share it and practice it with pride and do it without shame, without hate and influence from people who want us to act like high nosed culture deprived people. Now back to the Venda Chief, what happened there was cultural pimping, but the girl did not have a gun pointed at her, I don't think they coerced her in anyway, cause there were benefits and the girl consented and she is going have a big house, a BMW and a weave that drags the floor within a few weeks, it wasn't a case of a stolen/kidnapped bride like the old Xhosa Tradition and Kyrgystan (they still do, these girls kick and scream and cry - but the Venda woman (a consenting 23 year old adult) was all smiles and looked happy, so just quite down with the hate and let them be...

Venda Chiefs - NOT GUILTY!!!

Note (Ps): initially this was a response to an individual who said those people are Bokoharam and that what they are doing is modern day slavery and human trafficking - so I got riled up and felt I had to write this. To me the idea and act of Lining up women to give off one as a present is demeaning and off. But I would not compare that with BokoHaram, come on. And this is more of a rant, we need to #LoveCulture
