Apart from arguments about which gods or versions of gods exist or not, the other topic that is sure to encourage a polarising shouting match on News24 is any that contain a reference to Israel or Palestine.
The zealots from both sides will gather in force, raging, shouting and demonising each other over the impenetrable wall of a religious divide.
This is a fruitless argument because the hard liners on both sides prosper from a never ending conflict. Both sides think they are blessed by or acting on behalf of different versions of the same god.
Both sides point fingers at each other and both sides commit atrocities. There is no one left to convince one way or another as the independent uninvolved audience has long ago lost interest and left the auditorium.
And the god, despite all the singing, yelling, praising, begging, beseeching and grovelling has obviously also become bored, disinterested and is certainly not listening.
The way things are going the inevitable consequence is that the whole of the Middle East will be turned in a radio active wasteland. Maybe not tomorrow or next year, but inevitably some brain addled cretin who thinks his god will grant him everlasting heavenly bliss will lay hands on the power destroy everything they are fighting over.
The world is awash with radio active material, tons have been stolen or gone missing, and some scientists in manufacturing countries are sympathetic to one side or the other.
I understand cockroaches have a much higher radiation resistance than vertebrates and can survive a lethal dose perhaps six to 15 times that for humans.
Cockroaches have been around the Middle East for hundreds of millions of years; long, long before the first of our human ancestors stumbled into the region only about 125000 years ago.
By right of longevity of occupation they are the surviving legitimate claimants to the area and way things are going they could well succeed in reclaiming the territory exclusively for themselves.
Whether cockroaches consider it to be a Holy Land or not or argue about which roach gods are real or not I really don't know.
