The hooligan element that spoiled so many sporting events globally has now for the first time reared its ugly head in motorsport, and specifically in F1.
So, Sebastiaan Vettel is slowly but surely creeping up in the record books, and establishing himself as one of the all-time great Formula 1 drivers. He is one victory away from surpassing the great Ayrton Senna, and a fourth consecutive championship just about it the bag. How do the motorsport fans respond? They “boo” him while he is on the podium! Bad form! Extremely bad form!
Do we “boo” Tiger Woods, Usain Bolt, Novak Djokovic, and the like, just because we are sick with jealousy? Should we not celebrate true excellence? Even if the sporting great is not necessarily your personal favourite, for whatever nefarious reason, should we not recognise greatness and rather aspire to measure our heroes against the best of the best?
If this kind of hooligan behaviour becomes part of the sport, the true fans will walk away, and with them the sponsors! What will then become of this sport? This is a very expensive game, and needs huge corporate involvement to operate! What corporation want their good name and reputation linked to a bunch of misguided hooligan thugs? Bernie Ecclestone and the rest of the management better do something drastically if they don’t want to taint their sport forever!
The majority of the thuggish behaviour came from the Ferrari fans, and that idiot plank Fernando Alonso waving them on as if he is a choir conductor! What was he thinking? I couldn’t believe my eyes seeing him standing there with a massive smile on his face, constantly waving at his hooligan fans, irking them on and totally drowning out and destroying Martin Brundle’s interview with Vettel. Even after Brundle turned to the thugs and said, "Please don't do that, that’s not correct!”, Alonso and his fans carried on regardless. Was he simply on one massive ego trip, not realising he is damaging the image of F1, Ferrari and himself forever?
“Your hooligan fans can scream till they are blue in the face Mr Alonso, you are simply not good enough to catch Vettel. He is simply too fast for you, and the rest of the current crop of drivers!”
I suppose it is yet again the “untouchable” Ferrari team, and absolutely nothing will happen! If it was any other team massive sanctions would have been imposed on the team, and specifically at the gross un-sportsman like behaviour of the driver, but this is Ferrari, the “so-called” glamour team, so they can get away with it!
I use to be a Ferrari fan, I use to be a Alonso fan, no more! Never again!
