South African police officers need to stop acting like thugs....there I said it! I was only under the impression that police officers were empowered by the public “to serve and protect”.
I was in a roadblock situation last week where my car was “randomly” pulled a side to check that I wasn’t driving under the influence of alcohol, which is a good thing...... so first of all I have never been a roadblock situation before where my car was pulled over, I have never had to blow through the breatherliser so this for me was a new experience.
No instruction were given to me I was just told to blow, which I did...the machine beeped and read error, I was told to blow again and I did the machine beeped again and the error message appear again....then I don’t know....this officer lost his mind(that’s the only way can describe it) he called all his friends and suddenly he’s yelling instruction at me...dont blow to hard, blow for 5 seconds and if this machine show an error sign one more time he’s taking me in.
So imagine this situation you are surrounded by 6-7 officers and instructions are being yelled at you.....but anyway it turned out that the machine had a problem it had nothing to do with me, no apology was given I was just told to get in my car and go. (oh and this happened during the day)
I think “our” (and I’m using this term lightly) police officers need realise that they are public servants first a smile and patience when dealing with “your” public will go a long way.
