I'm a whitey. Born in the eighties, saw the tail end of apartheid, went to a model c school, hung out with people of all races, and couldn't really give a rats ass about race - but I am a whitey.
As you would expect, I don't vote for the ANC.
Although my family were big supporters of the anti apartheid movement, I don't vote for them.
However, they could still have my vote. Along with many other people's, I think, if they just did a few things.
First, they need to stop making racial slurs. Whether it's Manyi talking about too many coloureds in the Cape, or Malema and Zuma signging Dubul Ibhunu, that shit just doesn't fly in a non racial society chommas.
You can't claim to be building a non racist country unless you're not racially motivated either. So these quotas, BEE and AA need to go bros. Time we were all South African. Period.
Then there's corruption.
I know it happens everywhere. No one party or government in the world is immune.
But start firing people for pete's sake! We won't hold individual shenanigans against you if you fire the people who get up to nonsense. Extra points if you prosecute them.
Then there's the issue of education, which for me is two fold.
First, we need a education 180 - a total turnaround. I can't respect a government who is not even teaching kids to read with their useless education program. I think I make more useful contributions to education when I go to the toilet to be honest.
Then there's the party itself. I'm like many people. I want to vote for people who I feel are at the very least my intellectual equal - even better if they're smarter than me.
We want a government we can respect, in other words, and while I have huge respect for some of the people in the ANC's past, I don't see many these days that I can respect at all. They all remind me a little too much of dumber, poorer versions of the mobsters in The Godfather.
So, ANC, if you want your one party state - you can have it. But you first have to change who you've become.
Otherwise, you will find yourselves slipping into obscurity before too long. If you're all man enough not to take the route to infamy.
