How to deal with a cyber bully

11 February 2014, 18:10
As a recent victim of cyber-bullying I would like to share the following useful tips for those of you unfortunate enough to find yourself in my position:

1. Don't blame yourself.

It is not your fault that this person has chosen you as a target. The bully is the one with the problem, not you.

2. Try and view the bullying from another perspective.

This is difficult to do. It involves putting yourself in their shoes. Most cyber-bullies are very unhappy people who seek attention by harming others. Realize that this person has some serious mental issues and they are acting out of control.

3. Get help

Talk to friends and family. Don't suffer alone. Don't let the bully take charge of your life. They must not "win" this sick game and control your happiness.

4. Remove yourself from the situation

Spend less time online where the bully is. Go for a walk or to the shops. Don't let the bully be the focus of your life.

I hope these tips will help fellow sufferers to deal with being cyber-bullied. You are not alone!

Love
Rachel
