How to deal with rejection.

28 February 2014, 07:16
As a recent victim of online abuse, I know what it feels like to be rejected by a community of one's peers. It hurts. It hurts badly and there is nothing you can do to take away the pain immediately.

Is it safe for me to come out now? Will people listen to me again? Will I be judged based on my past? These are all questions that people who have been rejected ask themselves. It's a hard road to travel and doing it alone is even more arduous.

I want to share with you some tips on how to deal with being rejected, namely:

1) It is NOT YOUR FAULT. You need to stop blaming yourself if other people chose to reject and hurt you. It is something within themselves they need to address.

2) Remove yourself from the situation immediately. Take a break or a walk outside in the fresh air. Everything seems better after a change of scenery.

3) Keep a journal of your thoughts. This way you can track your progress or review past entries to see where you are going wrong. Over time, you can stop beating yourself up about being rejected.

4) Return to the scene. Don't let rejection stop you from returning to an environment you enjoy, even if some of those people reject you.

I hope these points will help you as much as they have helped me. I love and care about you all... Rachel xx
