Hurry up God - where are you?

10 April 2014, 09:13

Hurry up God - where are you?

Every one at some stage or other in their lives needs to have an intervention from above and my daughter was no exception.  She manages a big game lodge and one day with her 3 year old daughter she was stuck alone between a large herd of elephants and a angry teenage bull, that wanted to force his way back into the herd.

The matriarch who had chased the bull out of the herd was bearing down on her 4x4 vehicle, from the front and the indignant, angry, head- shaking, ear –flapping, trumpet- bellowing  bull was bearing down from behind. Neither had their eyes on the vehicle between them, and with each stride, the possessed behemoths bore down on the helpless occupants.

At this stage my daughter prayed and asked God to help them.  After a while with no help on the horizon, my grand daughter piped up with a innocent quip;

 “Hurry up God - where are you”.

Up till that moment, she had never heard that God could help in times of danger. Well the story ended well and of course needless to say God did not show up. All though the devout will say that he did, because every thing turned out okay - he was just testing your faith.

Which leads to me to ask the question; where is God – when you need him?  When things turn out okay we think God helped and supernaturally intervened but on the millions of other occasions, when things turn out bad, we say that it is Gods will, or the poor victims did not pray or have enough faith.

Starving children whose parents pray till they are blue in the face get no help from God. Children being abused and raped get no help from God. God does nothing.

Governments that oppress and embezzle billions from tax payers never get their comeuppance. Where was God during the slave trade, the holocaust, the inquisitions the crusades, the World Wars etc?

So where is God, when you need him? Where is God and his horde of guardian angles that are supposed to look after believers? Are they asleep? Why must God always work through someone or something, can he not adopt a more hands on approach.

We read on News 24 almost daily horrific cases of child abuse, family murders, farm murders, animal abuse, politicians stealing billions from the poor and building luxurious compounds, corruption on a grand scale, crooked cops, etc yet some people have the gall to say that God is in control. This delusion gives them much comfort.

Deluded Christians will have us believe that God isn't in the death, mayhem, destruction and chaos of the cataclysms we as humans experiences daily; no he helped the brave people searching for the downed jet liner to find the ping of the flight recorder, he isn't in the three hundred who died but in the one who survived, or the miracle when you prayed for your lost puppy and he was found or the wife who survived a farm terror attack, even though her husband was not so lucky, etc.

Christian faith is blindness to manifest horror in favour of comfort because they are too afraid (cowardly) to realise that there is NO god coming to our rescue and that this is as good as it gets.

 Take a  look at these failed promises of God that go unfulfilled:

Psalm 91

“Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.

Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence.

He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.

You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day,  nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.  no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent.

 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;

   .. “I will rescue him; I will protect him.  He will call on me, and I will answer him;

I will be with him in trouble,  I will deliver him and honour him.  With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

…………..

Oh really!  I rest my luggage - over to you faithful pilgrims.
