I Believe in Santa

23 July 2014, 19:33
So I'm going to ruffle a few feathers here...but here goes.

Santa Claus, Saint Nic and Father Christmas. He's know the world over by most children, and well supported by parents. My question is, why do people see it so necessary to ensure kids that he is not real, but almost force them to continue to believe in God, and be a good "Christian".

Now as far as I know, we cannot prove that Santa Claus does not exist, or that he does. I don't think we have completely scoured  the North Pole. Yes, parents place parents under their kid's trees for the most part. But every Christmas there are enormous amounts of good deeds done - could this not be the spirit of Santa working through people? Is there cold hard proof that he doesn't exist? Do you prove to your child that he isn't real?

Santa also provides so much wonder and awe to millions of kids around the world. He also seems to only stand for good, there never seems to be an evil side to Christmas. So why are good Christian parents so quick to point out that he is not real when kids reach a certain age.

Is it because a 30 year old man who believes in some mystical person would seem crazy? But believing in the other mystical people is alright by most, and even enforced (ahem, God, ahem).

Why even stop there. Can anyone, 100%, disprove the tooth fairy, the Easter Bunny, the bowl of spaghetti in space? Natural selection and evolution would not disprove these mythical creatures any more than it does God.
So why are hypocrites so quick to break their child's dreams and fantasies, whilst they continue to believe in theirs'.

I would have as much time for a Santa believer as I would for any other person, as long as that belief does not bring harm to others.
Enjoy your day :)
