I am just a young South African

02 April 2014, 14:09

Originally published on: http://konstantdreaming.wordpress.com

I wish I could say I am at a loss for words about the latest events within this cruel world. In fact, I am not. My mind is jumbled with love, hatred, admiration, conflict and just plain confusion. I don’t know how or why we would want to hurt, emotionally and physically, the people around us. Why would we want to damage anybody; create doubts; negative thoughts; body issues upon humans just like ourselves? I will not even touch upon my deeply personal fight against animal cruelty as that alone falls on deaf-ears.

I am worried, for my country, South Africa, my family, future family and ultimately my world. Where reputable journalists have become blood-hungry gossip-hounds. It is a world where our bodies have become a source of amusement as well as an object of abuse. I worry about the unemployed, their families, the violent crimes we face everyday. I am saddened by the homeless, standing at every robot, sleeping on our corners, some even drinking towards a numbness so that they don’t have to deal with this life. I am angered about the rights taken away from those poor souls, discriminated against for loving another soul of the same sex.

I will admit I am neurotic; I read articles, political statements, and news on current events, opinions blasting our social networks throughout my day. This not only educates - and only just, because what source of information can we truly trust - on daily issues and struggles within our societies. However it also affects me emotionally, yes I am a bleeding heart, it staggers my mind how easily angered, and vengeful and violent we all are. Although none of us have been involved in these atrocities, we have the power to prevent those of the future.

I find it’s easy to say these words, but really what could I possibly do to improve things? In all honesty I would love to engage in some sort of activity to assist and find solutions to such problems. This is why I am voting in the May elections, it is why I am constantly trying to create awareness whether it be by social media or word of mouth.

I invite the youth of this world to join me. I invite you to stand up for what we understand as good and right. This is our world too, I want to leave a legacy for future generations that is based on love, that of self and others, hope, mutual respect and above all else, unity. That said it is no easy task.

I only ask that you participate in creating a better world, a kinder generation and a legacy of peace.
