Every now and then I suffer a bout of philanthropy. Don’t worry – you hypochondriacs can relax – it’s not contagious. The dictionary defines “Philanthropy” as: “altruistic concern for human welfare and advancement; usually manifested by donations of money, property, or work to needy persons, by endowment of institutions of learning and hospitals, and by generosity to other socially useful purposes.”
My philanthropically induced bouts have seen me taking blankets and soup to homeless people sleeping under a bridge; donating TV’s to an orphanage; giving clothes to the needy; withholding money from the church; donating blood – and many other Goody Two-Shoes (GTS) deeds – enough to make Mother Theresa roll in the hay.
My latest bout of
philanto filasanropoopy philatrollogy Damn! I just cannot spell that word without a spellchecker! But that’s not important right now.
What is important is that, out of the goodness of my heart, I’ve recently tried to find employment for a young lady, using the Internet.
And this was where the fun started.
I found the JobMail site (www.jobmail.co.za) and applied for a PA/Secretary job in Gauteng. Within a couple of hours I started receiving emails from various employment and recruitment agencies. Great! I thought; this GTS bout won’t last long.
The contents of the emails from these “recruitment agencies” were almost all identical. They wanted a CV, photo, cover letter, references, supporting documents, etc.
They ALL wanted this information to be faxed to them. And they ALL said that this had to be done within a week or five days.
But then, while sitting on the throne in our pondering room (also known as our lavatory), I got to ponder: “If everyone faxed their application documents to the recruitment agencies, the cost of paper used to receive the faxes, must be exorbitant.” (OK, I cannot tell a lie, I didn’t ponder “exorbitant,” I pondered: “a hell of a lot.” Happy now?)
Finally I pondered: Who pays for the paper? How much would it cost to send faxes to all of these agencies? Where would an unemployed person get access to a fax machine? And so on…
This made me decide to Google these recruiters. I couldn’t find them on the Internet; couldn’t find their phone numbers; couldn’t find their email addresses. In short: I couldn’t find them anywhere. I think this is some sort of scam – but I’m too dim-witted to know how it works.
Now this is where I need your help. I’m putting the GTS monkey on your back, so to speak. I have these questions:
· How did these “recruiters” get my email address?
· What is the scam?
· Have you had a similar experience or heard of it?
· How can one locate these people’s physical addresses?
· Is it possible to hold these people legally responsible for their actions?
Here are the “recruiters” names, fax numbers, and (if given), the contact person’s name:
· HR Career Consultants - 0865258364 - RD Moonsamy
· JOB Solutions - 0866975367 - Lerato Radebe

· Job Genie Network - 0865636824
· VIKING Solutions - 0865635450

The reason behind my asking for your help is that, if these “recruitment agencies” are running some sort of scam, I want to nail their collective backsides to the wall. Preying on someone, who is desperate to find employment, must rank as one of the most despicable acts I can think of.
Please help me – I’m having a bout!
PS I do not hold JobMail, nor their staff, nor their employees, nor their sons, nor their daughters, nor their male servants, nor their female servants, nor their cattle, nor the strangers who are within their gates, responsible for this scam (if it is indeed, a scam).
