I remember 11 February 1990. I was doing standard 5 and we were told that Tata has been released from prison.
Soweto came to a standstill. There was cheering and chanting of slogans. It was a joyful day, a day of celebration.
We heard he was gonna be at Orlando Stadium. I was 11 years old but i also wanted to be there.
My friends and I walked from Meadowlands to Orlando Stadium. The stadium was full to capacity, we couldn't get in.
We walked back home but it was okay. It was okay because Madiba was free.
My grandmother couldn't believe that we walked all the way to the stadium ( it is a rather long distance) i was scared i was gonna get a hiding but she just laughed.
I am proud to be a South African. He taught us to be selfless, to forgive, to love unconditionally, to give.
Madiba had the magic of bringing people together. Last night, even in his passing, he brought the world together.
The world came to a standstill because of one man,one man that was like no other. Last night was one of the most powerful moments the world has seen. The world stood still for Tata Madiba.
I will forever be grateful for the sacrifices he made for our freedom. I will forever be grateful to his family who allowed us to share with them this great man.
I will forever be grateful for the ground work he did for me and my children.
Today I am Tata Madiba... am because YOU were...
May your beautiful soul Rest In Peace Nelson Mandela,me and my family will forever be grateful for the sacrifices you did for us.
