So I am sure we have all come across some old man or lady standing at a traffic light asking for money that goes into a tin for the disabled and elderly. Where does the money really go? The funniest thing is that if you ask them where they are from they tell you, Krugersdorp. Then what are you doing here? This is Secunda” No we are with an organization that takes us from town to town to collect money” It’s heart breaking to see these people begging for money when they could be given something to do that won’t completely take away their self-esteem. It’s come to a point where I’m so fed up that I’m driving in my car in 35°C without my window down just so that I don’t have to say no. Ignorance means the lack of knowledge and I fear in many cases 90% of our youth are complete morons. They can’t even spell correctly. I am not saying my spelling or grammar is the best in the world but I sure as hell don’t want to start learning the mixit or bbm language that they use.
Classic examples of ignorance are the signs that they put up to direct the locals to the library in Trichardt, Mpumalanga. They incorrectly spelt Trichardt. So how are you going to direct people to a place of learning if you can’t even spell the town name correctly? It was not just the one sign but three that were solidly planted in concrete. Our local newspaper is just as bad with spelling errors on almost every page.
We seem to walk around with our heads in the clouds just shrugging these things of thinking it will go away by itself. Being blissful in the pursuit that it’s not our problem. Our president is building a house worth millions when all he really needs is a 5 bedroom house in Kempton. How many lives could have been uplifted with those millions? So next year will be the biggest test of ignorance with the elections coming. Food parcels and free t shirts are probably going to be enough for most political parties to get the masses to vote. Let’s hope the EFF can’t afford these items yet. No, I’m just kidding it doesn’t really matter if they do because the ignorance surrounding the ANC is shocking. The DA is always fingering out all the ANC faults when they could be a bit more focused on what really matters – politics. So will I be voting? Yes. Just not sure I’m ignorant enough to vote for any of the parties just mentioned.
So do you agree that our society has become a haven of ignorance is bliss?
