The president has declared a week of national mourning for the 44 people killed during recent violence at Lonmin mine. Is it just me or does anyone else have a problem with mourning the lives of 34 criminals??? Have I become so desensitized that I don’t feel anything for these criminals?
Now the 2 policemen the 2 security guards and the 6 other innocents killed by the striking miners I will mourn. You see I take serious issue when miners engage in an illegal protest, kill police officers and burn security guards in their cars and then charge police while carrying weapons, these people at this point are no longer miners looking for a better wage but criminals putting our police officers at risk.
So I ask again since when did it become ok for a country to nationally mourn criminals. Where is the week long mourning period for all the police men and woman that die every year in this country while on duty? Where is the “week long national mourning period” for the thousands of innocent civilians killed and murdered every year by criminals in this country?
The politicians have pounced on this band wagon due to the massive international media coverage to try and get their five minutes of fame. Ministers are personally overseeing things like death certificates, funerals and pathology reports. Even the South African embarrassment Julius Malema is going to the police station with miners today to lay charges of murder against the police.
I find it disgusting and stand 100% behind our police officers. Law abiding South Africans want a tough force to take care of criminals and thugs, but when they do they are branded murderers in the international media and by some of our own politicians.
To all the good Cops out there we stand behind you!
