Imagination or stereotype thinking

14 May 2014, 07:14

My name is Moroke Arthur Mphatsoe, I recently just completed my B-tech marketing at Central University of technology. Throughout the course of my studies I maintained an average score in my academics, which is a 55-60% in most of my subjects and sometimes a lucky 65-70% on a few.

There are many factors that could have led to the attainment these average results, maybe I did not study enough for tests or maybe I lacked concentration in class, and those two might even be true for an individual like myself who studies for twenty minutes and takes break of forty because I have to update my Facebook, twitter, LinkedIn and Whatsapp status, but even so, I was able to complete a three year diploma in four years and a B-tech in record time.

What kind of student was I? One lecturer said I was always busy trying to find an alternative way to solve a problem rather than use one that was provided and had been so successful that people had written books about it. During class I would get so excited about a topic that I’d take out my blackberry and start Google searching it and never forgetting to share the newly acquired knowledge on Facebook. They say don’t get caught with your hand in the cookie jar, if I was caught, it’d be with two hands in two different jars and a few cookies already chewed.

I’ve had a lot of time to evaluate myself as I have been unemployed for four months now which has resulted in the success of a Facebook page, an agreement between a local singer and the number one gaming and entertainment facility in Welkom and, a few articles on my laptop. I may not be living my dream, yet, but I am, living in a world created by my imagination.
