Yeah, yeah! I know what you're thinking about and I will have to admit, mine was not one of the best either...Like most I guess then and maybe even now, mine was experienced in a very sober, scared and worrying getting caught kind of way.....I mean really, in those days (80's), you were ostracised if anyone found out, even if you ended up marrying the guy. But, unless you were like some then and most now today, either under the influence of alcohol or some kind of drug or even both, your "first time" will stay with you forever. You remember the place, when, where and how and even every thought that crossed your mind in those 10 min...if you were that lucky of course...
But this is not what this article is about .... it is about ALL our "first times".... we experience a "first time" throughout our lifes many times....whether it is short lived or you are one of the lucky ones that might reach the 90's or more or for however long your brain might stay sane enough to remember to experience any "first times" that will come your way, looking at some out there, it might not take that long.....
But yes, what I am talking about is like the first time a wife of a "opregte boere omie" books her husband in at the Spa for a massage....He will arrive for his appointment trying very hard to make himself as small as possible, nearly crawling in on all fours through the entrance doors hoping that no one will see him, and then announcing himself at reception in the smallest voice possible (we all know that's impossible) and then cursing his wife for putting him in this situation of his biggest humiliation....Red faced he will then follow you to the massage room and nearly expire from relieve for not seeing any red lights going on and off anywhere. Then, having lived through his first time at a massage and feeling relaxed and rejuvenated with a great sense of self pride and awe (like looking at his "Daisy's" first calf being born when he was only 7 years old), he will come strutting out and booking his own massage for the next day.
Or, like the "first time" I bungee jumped off a bridge and nearly had a heart attack but luckily lived to tell the tale even though my dad warned me not to do this and my eldest son at the time saying that is because grandpa is scared that he will have to raise him and his brother in case I dont make it..
Or the anticipation of an expecting mother, knowing what is to come and dreading it but at the same time cant wait for the "big" day.
For many the anticipation of a "first time" or rather unknown is scary to the point of becoming a phobia but somehow we all experience a "first time" in some way or another sometime...some of these experiences will be felt over and over again with the same result even...you know, like visiting the dentist...for most this experience will always feel like a "first time" no matter what!
No one anywhere on earth can escape a "first time" for something somewhere at all....Some will turn out to be a good experience and others not. We will all know that in some point of our life we will have to deal with losing a loved one. You live in anticipation of that moment even though you try not to think of something like that happening..ever, but eventually that day will come and when it happens the "first time" you deal with it and move on...That is the circle of life.
And so there are many times where you go through your "first time" either directly or indirectly. You might even instigate a "first time" for someone else. Might be something big or just something small....Each person out there is an individual with his own experiences, good or bad and who knows what just a compliment or smile might do to someone out there. When last have we really looked at the person next to us...whether it be at the bus-stop, in the train, standing next to you in line at the bank, the cashier behind the desk, the person taking your order or anywhere....what might that "first time smile or compliment" mean to that person, coming from you that is..Maybe nothing......or...maybe just the thing needed to start of that persons "first time" experience for that day.
