I am writing this letter to you about the incompetence of the of the members of staff that work at the SASSA offices. I received a letter from them saying that I must go an re register for my pension on the 7th Feb 2013. And was told that I must phone the toll free number 0800601011 or 0800600160 for my nearest venue.
Well for hours I tried to get through to these phone numbers with no joy, so I eventually phoned the Head office and was told that I had to go to the St Oswald's Church hall in Union Road in Milnerton. I got a friend to drive me there only to find that there was no Church hall in Union Road, well we spent nearly 2 hours driving around up and down trying to find this non existent church hall.
Eventually I saw a gentleman in his garden and he told me where to find the hall, which was 2 blocks away from his home. On arrival at the hall, it was locked up with a notice on the door. I have removed this notice as evidence of how bad the service is to people who want to renew their pensions. And am sending you a copy written out as to what is on it. TO ALL SASSA CLIENTS (CAPE TOWN AREA) Kindly be informed that the re-registration of social grant beneficiaries ( bank/post office) will commence on the 14 January 2013 at the following sites only. St Phillips Anglican Church 128 Chapel Street Woodstock.. 14January - 28 March 2013 Liebrandt van Niekerk Hall, South Road, Tableview. 14 January - 28 March ( only Monday, Wednesday Friday,Saturday Only. Shawco Hall 12th Ave, Kensington 14-26 January 2012 Only ( Please note this is not my mistake ) NG Church, Bower Street, 28 January -02 February 2013 Sea Point Minor Hall 04-09 February 2013.
For any enquiries contact the local office (021 4819700). Well by the time I saw this flames were flying out of the top of my head, because of the time they had made me waste and the wastage of petrol for the car I had borrowed to take me there.
I got home and phoned the head office, and asked to speak to the Manager or someone in charge, only to have the phone not answered, and eventually my call was returned to the Switchboard. So I told the lady on the Switchboard what had occured, and how angry I was at the waste of time money and petrol driving around in circles trying to find a place that did not exist in the area I was told to find it. She apoligised and suggested that I go into the main office in Cape Town and see them there.
Once again more petrol more time, and then having to pay for parking, I am a pensioner, R1200.00 a month to live on and I live in a garage. Yes I am annoyed as you may have guessed. Please print this letter so that other pensioners be warned of the wrong information that may be given to them. Yours Sincerely Carolyn Dewrance
