Affirmative Action or BEE, whatever you want to call it, is really only about skin-colour. There are a couple of liberals out there who prefer to be oh-so politically correct, who will deny this and want to slaughter me for stating the truth.
Let me substantiate my statement and then ask for comment.
I work in a large corporate, which has been systematically ‘affirmed’ from the top down. It oozes ANC with some guys even coming to work in ANC-logoed clothing.
As for me, as a whitey I was informed that my employment will be converted to consultant status (which means that ‘they’ can put more pressure on you to perform else they can just terminated you painlessly). I was told that they had to replace me with a PDI (note: Previously Disadvantaged Individual) to increase the company’s BEE levels.
I submitted. I converted to consultant. And they quickly filled my position with a black person whom I have to coach. The person is a pleasant person with whom I have a good relationship.
But, here is the catch. The person that filled my position is a Zimbabwean. It raised the question; does it mean that Zimbabweans in South Africa qualify as PDI? Is the fact that Zimbabweans are Black qualifying them to count towards BEE-scores and AA?
I then scratched around a bit more. I found that that upper echelon of the company parades more Zimbabweans, scoring BEE points as PDIs. On inquiry I was told I was wrong about the individual, but a simple visit to the travel office proved that the specific executive was travelling on a Zimbabwean passport, but counting towards BEE-score.
I really hope that News24 will publish this contribution.
I will like to see the comments from my fellow South Africans, maybe also comments from some COSATU and other union members.
My sincere questions are ‘do Zimbabweans and other non-South African Black also qualify for AA ahead of South Africans who are not Black?’ Do non-Black South Africans have lessor priveledge to employment in South Africa, even lessor than Black people from outside South Africa?
If that is correct, then there is no other explanation “BEE and AA is primarily about skin-colour!” and therefore it is inherently racist.
