Some people uses Fêng Shui to bring them good luck or good health. In many Western countries,practitioners of Fêng Shui in the past have tried to give it a more scientific appearance,analyzing geographic sites,etc.What exactly is Fêng Shui then?
In China it's a form of geomancy or augury. Peoples grave sites are chosen according to it,skyscraper buildings,offices and houses gets designed by it,books teaches it and the internet promotes it as well. Why is it so popular? Because people believe it to improve your living,your health,better marriages and relationships,greater wealth and even peace of mind. Sounds charming does it not!
The definition of Fêng Shui is wind-water. When ancient Taoist philosophies were first developed the roots for Fêng Shui made its mark. The balance of yin and yang,which are darkness and light,hot and cold,negative and positive were included into Fêng Shui.Later on the concept of ch'i,which is air or breath,were joined in.
Yin,yang,ch'i and the 5 elements of water,wood,fire,metal and earth were fused into Fêng Shui theory. People that follow Fêng Shui believe that powerful lines of energy flows through every landscape. Their goal is to pinpoint the locations where the energies or ch'i of the land and sky merges into complete balance. This gets accomplished by altering the landscape itself or alterations within a building on a particular site. Bringing this balance ensures good fortune for this living and working there.
Sort of like the futuristic Fifth Element science fiction movie scene where Bruce Willis character average Joe uses sexy, near-immortal super-being Milla Jovovich in conjunction with the mythological four elements of fire, water, wind and earth to destroy evil.
Geomantic compass is used in fêng shui.A geomantic compass is a small magnetic compass that gets set in the middle of a astrological chart. The compass has concentric circles which gets divided by lines. When a compass reading gets taken,observers looks for hen the compass needle intersects with points on the outer lines and circles and from there determines what is needed to fix a site. Everything thereafter gets taken into consideration,the landscape,water streams,sewer drain pipes,manhole covers,the placing of doors and windows all of which needs to be brought into balance on that particular site.
Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary says "Fêng Shui is divination by means of figures or lines or geographic features". So basically its a form of fortune-telling and divination which is not new to us. Some experts say that divination is linked with Demonism and that this can put you in contact with the Devil himself. Would anyone really wanna call up the Devil and expect him to behave?
The five elements gets used in alternative medicines,traditional Chinese medicines,military strategies in war,astrology,music and even martial arts. So its a matter of opinion.Here is something else:
Wood feeds Fire.
Fire creates Earth(ash).
Earth bears Metal.
Metal carries Water(like in a bucket or tap; water condenses on metal).
Water quenches Fire.
Earth dams(absorbs or muddies)Water.
So the 5 elements are in complete harmony. What's wrong in that? Is Fêng Shui for you? You decide.
