I generally want to throw up when I read the reasoning of some people. It is clear that most people don't think with their heads.
I suspect that the whole god versus atheism debate is founded on emotions. Its a bit like choosing your brand and sticking with the one you feel safest with. Both parties, religious or atheistic, will quote some other reference point and ultimately both parties are flawed.
Religion isn't perfect... Its a PORTION of man's perspective from a certain time.
Science isn't perfect... Its a PORTION of man's perspective from a certain time.
For the one misunderstanding of religion to point out the flaw in the other misunderstanding of science... is silly.
Both perspectives are merely a perspective from a certain time, and both has to be flawed. As soon as we start digging into the details of the opposing argument we will find either the good or the flaw, depending what you were looking for.
That what you seek... you shall find. Or to put it slighly differently... "Seek, and ye shall find"
But most arguments on this on-line debate aims not at seeking truths... it aims at destroying the views of others. It isn't good science to destroy the evidence that others bring to argument...
Make sure that you as a scientist bring good reference points and good argument. But don't break others. Don't cure the eyes of others. Simply fix your own eyes.... Or to put it more simply:
"first take the beam out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly how to remove the splinter from your brother's eye"
If you cannot remove the splinter from your brother's eye, your eyes are still blind.
Being an accurate scientist requires that you look at yourself first, get all the emotional and/or intellectual fragments out of your eyes first to clean your side of the debate. Those debates that you put forth must be an addition to existing knowledge. Also, from a religious perspective it is taught by Jesus himself that you repair your eyes before you start force feeding blind faith to others. How can you not be open to scientific method, when that is what Jesus himself taught?
Open, investigate and repair your own eyes first, before you criticize the eyes of a said science or belief.
So to recap. Ignoring modern Churches... if we look a the very words of Jesus[the founding principles of the Churches] we find that humility and self-making leads to clarity. Its very much a scientific method that led man out of his emotional labyrinth.
Consider the debates of pre-Jesus times. Did people stone each other for clarity. Did they also correct others to death? If we could add a stone throwing application to this debate 90% of the people reading news24 would be corrected... and 6 feet under.
The world was a terrible place to life in, and humility, clear thinking and truth seeking was the wine that freed man from his own spite and malice, destructive arguments and careless spite and clawing. One may argue that Jesus opened the eyes of the masses and that alone paved the way for the "scientific" age. But as valueable as Jesus's teachings was he knew that Christianity would eventually corrupt...
But remember it is not the skin of Christianity or the skin of Atheism that is important. It is this wine that is so important" "Neither do men pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst, the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved."
Modern day truths [wine] cannot neatly fit into the old skin of Christianity. New truths go into a new skin, and its is much instructed by Jesus himself and above all he clearly instructs the new wine to stay the hell away from old skins/containers/bodies. It simply doesn't work. The two philosophies are not in opposition. They merely stand in sequence. The one was the reason the other existed etc.
It is not the place of atheists to occupy Christianity... Find your own space and fill that. Leave the old skins in tact. Much as the modern churched as corrupted Christianity, so to are you busy to try and destroy it. Still... True Christianity is not a threat to anyone... Nor does it worry about its old skin...
It is simply a scientific method of humility, and it liberates. It is the truth and the light and it will save you...
