Our beloved P.Divvy opened his mouth recently to have a go at Heineken Meyer's selections. And while I hate the idea of having a quota for players of colour, I am in agreement with Snor that we could up the the number of black Bok players, and this purely on merit.
Lets compare Morne Steyn to Lwazi Mvovo for example. Steyn has proven absolutely hopeless, and I remember being mocked on this forum for suggesting that Peter Grant would make a better choice for Bok number ten. Now it seems I am 100% correct. Well sort of, because anyone would have been better than Morne Steyn. Elton Jantjies for example could have been blooded.
Back to Mvovo. Surely he must be wondering why he was dropped? What goes through his mind when he sees the Basil Fawlty of fly-halves play week in and week out, while he himself loses his spot on the wing to a second rate scrum-half?
What did Mvovo do that was so bad to warrant getting dropped?
This begs the question: do white South Africans have a built in bias against players of colour? I am not saying we are setting out to be racist, but strongly believe there is a blind spot when it comes to acknowledging black talent.
The solution to the Bok problem is deceptively simple: choose the correct players and implement the correct game plan. Unfortunately I don’t see Meyer doing that. He is fast turning into a Rudolph Straulie: stubborn, pig-headed and dumb.
