We read frequently in the press that South Africa is a democracy - but is it? Generally the system of majority rule is considered a democracy. However, the question always comes back to minority rights.
In South Africa many minority groups are prevented from free and impartial access to the job market based on their gender and race and age. For South Africa to become a true democracy it will have to abandon laws that prevent minority groups from unprejudiced access to the job market.
Hopefully, one day this will happen, but South Africa has a long way to go. In most Western Countries today people vote for issues that matter like a better economy for example, but in South Africa we still vote along tribal and racial lines.
