Okay, before you read on - all of you - note that I used the words RELIGION, and DIVINE BEING.
Now that we've got that out of the way, let me explain.
If there is a divine being (and I am still not entirely convinced that there isn't) is the notion of us base, selfish creatures being created in it's image (per the major religions) not slightly insulting?
Personally, if I were an omnipotent, divine, creator type, I wouldn't want to be compared to shaven monkeys like us!
Second, if I were able to create an infinite, ever expanding, never ending, endlessly fascinating universe, would I really want to be tethered to the whims of said species?
Can we really be arrogant enough to think that because our illiterate, sheep herding ancestors managed to scrawl down a few books that were later amalgamated by some overfed church elders into the holy books we have today, we're somehow special?
Even if you don't believe in evolution or the big bang, you must realise that the universe is endless and larger than you can possibly perceive. That also means that there are endless civilisations like ours out there, also having all these arbitrary religious 'rules' and all demanding things of their 'maker.'
If god exists, he doesn't care what happens to you. The only rules you ever need to follow are your personal morals, and the law. The divine being, whatever they might be, does not care that you spend time in church, or here, defending your 'faith.'
It's entirely arrogant and self centered to believe that if a divine being or beings does exist, they care one iota what you do in your lifetime.
Organised religions are created by people, to control people. If you follow them without questioning, you're not better than anyone else, you're stupid.
Note, for the record, that this post is directed at ALL religions, and for dog's sake, cultivate a few more brain cells!
