Is slavery a punishment for sin?

07 July 2014, 13:52
1. The Bible claims Noah started slavery with a curse. Canaan was cursed to be a slave (Genesis 9:20-27).
2. The Ten Commandments says in Exodus 21:17 "Do not desire another man's house; do not desire his wife, his slaves, his cattle, his donkeys, or anything else that he owns." The Ten Commandments is clear. A man may own another human being as a slave.
3. Exodus 21:16 "Whoever kidnaps someone, either to sell him or to keep him as a slave, is to be put to death." If this verse tells us it is a sin to capture someone as a slave, then where does slavery come from?
4. Exodus 22:1-4 is an example of whom can be sold as a slave. If someone steals and can't pay damages they can be sold or being keep as a slave. There is many other examples of how someone can become a slave. Too many to mention here.
5. My conclusion: "Slavery is a punishment for committing sin. This means slavery is just or a good moral in the eyes of God of the Bible when slavery is used to punish sin. God of the Bible implemented laws for whom can be slaves. Slaves are the property of their owners. They can be trade with.

Why I love Cambodia’s capital

There are so many reasons to hate Cambodia’s bite sized capital of Phnom Penh. Open sewers, naked children, piles of burning garbage on every street. Its a dirty, smelly, noisy amalgam. But Phnom Penh grows on you and by the time you leave it will occupy a special place in your heart. Read more...
