Is the Democratic South Africa for us?

14 March 2014, 09:04

I have started to consider this question in deeper thought lately? Is this country really for us? Or is it against us? Social media tells us that there are still many titanic obstacles which we will need to conquer before we can truly say we are a rainbow nation.

Take my example for instance, I applied for a job last year with a renowned institution which has been known for its preference to some racial/cultural groups, and after a 2 minutes conversation I was shot out of the park by their HR department -regardless of my qualifications and education. They had not even seen my detailed CV at that point, but based on my work experience and what must be “the sound of my voice” I was rejected.I am sure that this has happened to many of you as well.

I can’t help but feel we are going backwards into our own chaotic history, of which the pain and suffering is still yet to repeat itself. We are such a fragile nation at this age of our democracy, everyone is either on the brink of something wonderful or something terribly disastrous.

By now we should had been standing proud as a united front, from all walks of life…but the reality is, the blood lines are still drawn, the cultural feuds still fueled and the hearts of many still broken.

This truly saddens me.
