" And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works."- Revelation 20:12
We learned from the previous article, "1844: The Beginning of Judgment in Heaven", that a work of Judgment began in heaven in 1844 and there every human who has ever entered the service of God is being brought to judgment, starting from the first who ever lived till the judgment will pass to the living, and that time we know not of. The above verse we explained that the dead who "stand before God" do not be there in heaven physically since the dead are conscienceless but rather they "stand before God" through their life records. Now what are the books in Rev. 20:12 all about? There is a distinct book and books referred on this verse.
It is of great importance to note that the verse bring to view the book of life. The questions are, what does it contain? Whose book is this? Well lets hit the mark; " And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him (the beast), whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world."- Revelation 13:8. So from this verse it is clear that (1) the book of life is the Book of the Lamb, the lamb being Christ himself see John 1:29 for example. and that (2) this book of life contain written names, and it shows that there are individuals whose names are not written in the book. When Christ spoke to his disciples he said, "...but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven." Thus Paul said, "with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life."- Luke 10:20 and Philippians 4:3. Thus we see from the two verses that the names which are written in the Book of Life are the names of all those who ever entered the service of God, the Believers of God.
Thus could Jesus say, " Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day."- John 6:54. Now having knowledge that the professed followers of God are they whose names are written in the book of life, why not you non-believer? Don't you want to follow Christ and your name be entered in the book of life? Christ is inviting you also; " Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."- Matthew 11:28-30. But though we who profess to follow Christ have our names written in the Book of life in heaven, if we become unfaithful and repent not of our sins our names will be blotted out of this book of life, for it is written, "And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book." "He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life,..."- Exodus 32:33 and Revelation 3:5. note it is (1) they that sin against God, they who breaks the law of God, and (2) they that do not overcome; are those whose names will be blotted out of the book of life later in time. So once saved always saved? No ways! So we need to repent of our sins before God and turn away from them through his power, for " If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."- 1 John 1:9.
In this probation God has given us, may we come closer to God, get connected to him and let him through his holy Spirit work in us to change our vile characters to his sinless character, and that our names not be blotted out of the book of life, but rather remain there and inherit life everlasting when he comes back.
But what about "...those things which were written in the books, according to their works."- in Rev. 20;12? It is said the dead are judged according to what is written in this "books" what are some of this records in heaven? Well, the Bible cannot leave us in darkness, for it is the light. "Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name."- Malachi 3:16. Here we are given a glimpse of a certain book also, the Book of Remembrance. Thus in this book every record of words of faith, acts of love, all good deeds done of they who "feared the LORD" are kept. Thus Nehemiah could say, " Remember me, O my God, concerning this, and wipe not out my good deeds that I have done for the house of my God, and for the offices thereof."- Nehemiah 13:14. You see, but Nehemiah said " wipe not out my good deeds ", which clearly can rise a question, "does it mean that the deeds done can be wiped/blotted out from the book of remembrance?" Yes. You see if any follower of God should forsake the ways of the Lord, and repent not, his name will be blotted out of the book of life when the time comes for blotting out of names, and all his good deeds that were recorded in the book of remembrance will be blotted out also, the prophet Ezekiel prove this point; "But when the righteous turneth away from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, and doeth according to all the abominations that the wicked man doeth, shall he live? All his righteousness that he hath done shall not be mentioned..."- Ezekiel 18:24.
And not only are these types of records (the book of life and the book of remembrance) preserved in heaven but also the books that contain all the sins and works of every human. For "God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil."- Ecclesiastes 12:14. Every "secret thing" we do is recorded in powerful heavenly records, whether it be good or evil, every motive is recorded, And Christ said, "But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."- Matthew 12:36,37. Thus we see that even the words we speak are being recorded. What a solemn work of judgment that is currently happening in heaven which started in 1844, we need the Lord, people. For these records will God "...make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God."- 1 Corinthians 4:5.
