This morning I woke up, had my mandatory shower, and upon getting dressed, I realized that I'm all out of deodorant. I decided to borrow some of my son's deodorant. No problem.
Now it's 4 o'clock in the afternoon. I reach for a manual on my bookshelf in the office and I realise; man, I (still) smell really nice. It's then that it hits me; I spent the whole day smelling like my six year old son and that this "Smurf deodorant" is really good stuff. (Also it complements the Dune pour homme perfume my wife gave me, perfectly).
Another thought came to me. This is really what it's all about. That tiny moment of satisfaction, when you are, in spite of all stresses and worries, content. When every thought in you turn to that which is truly important.
We are all looking for that "WOW" moment, that fleeting "15 minutes of fame", that "look at me, I'm special/successful/wealthy" moment". Is that shallow? No, it's ambitious. Is it the be all and end all? No, it's only the beginning.
Now it's eight o'clock at night. I'm tucking my son into bed. And as I hold his hand 'till he's asleep, I thank him that I could smell like him for a day. No worries, no pretences, no fears. Just peace!
You should all try it sometime!
PS: I'm definitely changing my brand of deodorant (and no, I'm not accepting any endorsements from the Smurf Deodorant Company).
PPS: This article is a little tribute to my son (if you would indulge me), who has the ability to help me focus on that which is really important in life.
